Join us as Bert
Webber discusses the office, duties, and obligations of a steward - the careful
and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care, especially the
stewardship of our natural resources.
When we examine all the players in the use of the Nooksack River
Watershed like Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, Whatcom farmers, Whatcom
residents, commercial and sports fishing industries, it’s not difficult to see
how the State Dept. of Ecology has determined that the flow of water in the
Nooksack River and its tributaries is below the amounts necessary for natural
functions of the riparian areas to be sustained. So the questions we need to ask include what
is our responsibility as Stewards of the land and water resources in Whatcom
County? Do we accept what has happened
or do we support changes that are fair to all? How can that be done? Bert Webber is a professor emeritus of Huxley
College WWU (also helping founded Huxley College) whose specialty is in marine
ecology.
